I wonder what it's like to look through the blinds
And see someone you want to hold you for hours
I wonder what it's like to peer through your bed sheets
And pray that they stay at your feet forever
I wonder what it's like to smile beside the car door
And never want to go inside
I wonder what it's like to cry with old photographs
And not have to worry that those memories are long since past
I wonder what it's like to glimmer through the brims of your sun hat
And hope to God that glimmer never leaves

Cloudy Condescension
The tip of the eyebrow
The curve of the curious
The furrow of the upper lip
I know what you mean.
The curve of the curious
The furrow of the upper lip
I know what you mean.

Pro? Con?
Sweet as a Teller

Will you be the one to write the freedom?
Will you guide the flight of those unheard?
Will you speak for those left unseen?
Will you be the eyes of those left blind with memories?
Will you do the thing that is right, because it is the right thing?
"Now we are all ordinary people, but even an ordinary secretary, or an ordinary housewife, or a teenager, can turn on a small light in a dark room."

Lights

That splitting center
In the right side of my stomach
Burns and cracks and splints
Like a tiled floor
That careless feet have stomped on
Time and time again
The signs all say
Do not walk on
But they do not care
The snow in my chest
Grows warm and burns
The sun in my eyes
Carry a breeze
With every smoldering ray
Time and time again

Empty Calories

You watch the movies
You sympathize
But it's something different
When you can't see your thighs
You say you're there for them
You watch them kneel
But it's something different
At the bottom of a porcelain bowl's seal
You listen to the screeches
The gags and the purges
But it's something different
Fighting your own urges
